Home made project: Book covering prettiness

At the end of term 2 my daughter Sophie needed a new homework book. She wrote a to do list on the chalkboard in the kitchen the night before school went back. Ooops. I had neglected to cover her new book. I am totes a bad mother. Better pour me a drink and cut me a slice of cake. Thanks.

It is very exciting to see what creativity comes to mind when the kids finally go to sleep. If you're like me, you wait ALL day for them to go to sleep at night. ALL DAY! By that time your creativity has been replaced by chores that didn't get done or you have a conversation with yourself about the useful properties of phenergan. Once that stomach knot dissipates, woo hoo, it's on like donkey kong!

Brown craft paper, stamps, ink, dollies and clear gloss PVC plastic. Let's go. Pretty, inexpensive, simple, effective and unlicensed (pet hate is licensing). A big win.

Sophie had been invited to celebrate her friend Bella's 7th birthday. At her mothers suggestion she said gifts were not necessary, although stating that she hated when hosts requested the same. The birthday girl said she liked Sophie's newly covered book and could I make her some for her birthday. Of course.

The only problem was that Sophie was a tad jealous of the designs I did for Bella. Typical! At least I can start thinking of some fun book coverings for next years back to school pain.

These are the three I put together for the gift

Funky tapes can be picked up cheaply at Typo.
The bird stamp and lower case alphabet stamp
are from Typo, Kikki-K also has great ones.
Corner punches are a lovely way to soften edges,
they aren't expensive. I picked mine up on eBay cause I CBF
taking the kids with me to the shops.

Any theme or scrap booking papers can be used.
The babushka dolls are from Phoenix Trading Australia.

How pretty is the star glitter!
Imagine a space theme for boys with dotted glitter of blue, purple and silver.
Ensure the the plastic is completely sealed by tape on the inside,
otherwise it will deposit everywhere!

It is fun how the glitter moves around inside the plastic cover.

To finish off the gift and to help with storage I bought a clear plastic document wallet from OfficeWorks. A small pom-pom was made with twine to tie the colour themes together and to fit in with the homemade DIY vibe. It's all about the vibe!

Pom-poms are super easy to make.

So there you have it! Easy, fun, creative and handmade with love and best wishes! The best parts were how proud Sophie was to give it to Bella and seeing Bella's face as she looked through the books. That is priceless.

How do you achieve creative time?
Do you need to be creative to feel rejuvenated?
Would you be offended if you received a homemade gift
for yourself or your child

And yes, I promise I will get a post up about
my little collection of gift wrapping supplies.
